Background of The College
Upendra Nath Brahma College, shortly known as U.N. Brahma College is the only full fledged three years Degree College in the heart of Kajalgaon, the district headquarter of Chirang. Kajalgaon once a sleepy hemlet of Assam, shot into sudden prominence when it was declared a district headquarter
of Chirang as a result of the formation of Bodoland Territorial Council in the year 2003.
At a time when the society was taken over by poverty, illiteracy, ignorance, superstition and other nasty and immoral acts it is the selfless and untiring effort of some enthusiastic intellectuals, educationists, social workers and the common people of the locality to realise the urgency of the hour and the need of an ideal educational institution. As a result of it, the college was established in the year 2001 in the name of Upendra Nath Brahma, the father of the Bodos, for realising his dreams, aspirations and philosophies to be a noble being.
The College was lucky enough to have the services of Dr. Dinanath Basumatary, the first Principal who dedicated himself and made many sacrifices to make the college a worthy institution of higher learning. It is worth mentioning to record the services of Ms. Nilpadmini Rabha, present Principal of the college who came forward to serve this institution at a time when its future was uncertain at the nascent time. Sri Kumud Narzary took the charge as Vice-Principal of the college and served in his best capacity.
